How to Sew Buttons on Trousers for Braces
24 October 2022
When preparing to sew the four buttons on the front of the trousers first we suggest putting the trousers on and stand in front of a mirror.
Next;
- Place the braces over your shoulders as though you were going to wear them. Then adjust them into the right hanging position over your body so you identify the best position which suits your body and build.
- Mark these positions on your trouser waistband perhaps using chalk or a pin.
- Then do a final check to make sure that both marks are an equal distance from the centre of the trousers before taking the trousers off again.
- Mark the button locations approx 3cm on either side from these marked positions (6cm apart in total). This is where the buttons should be sewn on the inside of the waistband.
At the back of the trousers the two buttons should be placed at an equal distance on each side of the center seam, about 6cm apart from each other. Take your tape measure and measure 3cm on each side of the center seam and mark the spot for each button on the inside of the waistband. This should also be about 2.5cm down from the top of the waistband.
